Our History

A Garage Robotics Club

Our organization was started by a passionate family who were previously involved in an FRC team in Milan OH, as well as a small group of interested students. They were able to throw together a robot, in a two car garage, that competed in offseason (unofficial) events in 2014.

Getting Serious

Stellar’s first official registered season was Recycle Rush in 2015 and the team competed in the official events. They were regional finalists and had the privilege of competing at the FIRST World Championship through the Rookie All Star Award. This was only possible through initial sponsors and contributors, as well as support from fellow teams.

Expanding Program Offerings

In efforts to provide opportunities to younger students, Stellar began hosting FLL and FTC programs. Not only did this open up STEAM learning opportunities to Elementary and Jr High students, but this also provided a stable progression path to the Sr High program.

Challenging Times

Stellar faced some challenges over the rest of the 2010s, but like with many organizations, the Covid-19 pandemic hit us hard. Our organization was cut to a quarter of what it was before. Around half of the FRC teams worldwide were disbanded, but we were thankfully able to pull through. Today, we are healthy and growing.

Stellar Today

Since recovering from the pandemic in 2023, Stellar has expanded it’s outreach and strive to continue improving the quality of our programs. We’ve partnered with the Shelby Dream Center starting in 2026 to further integrate our STEM programs into the Shelby City general outreach.

Our Mission

Our mission is that of FIRST®: to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders by engaging them in exciting mentor-based robotics programs that build science, engineering and technology skills; that inspire innovation; and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.
